Sneha Vasti (Oil Enema)

Indications:

Diseases of vata origin,Prior to Kashya Vasti


Treatment Procedure:

  • Procedure of Sneha vasti(Anuvasana vasti)
  • The patient is allowed to eat hearty, austere and light food not too oily not too dry and that too one fourth amount of the normal intake.
  • Allowed to take luke warm water. The patient made to get on to the dhroni after ablution. The patient is given Abhyangam with suitable oil and mild sudation is done
  • The patient is made to lie comfortably on left lateral position with his left leg the waist region.on extended or stretched out and right leg folded in front and the left hand kept beneath the head Lubricate the anus of the patient and also the nozzle of the vasti yantra or the syringe.
  • Ask the patient to relax completely and breathe through open mouth After pacifying the patient insert the nozzle into the rectum slowly and straightly in the direction of the vertebral column.
  • Let the oil enter into the rectum without interruption by pressing the enema bag or the piston of the syringe with uniform pressure. It should not be too fast or too slow or with great pressure or with low pressure.
  • Once the oil has entered into the large intestine, and some oil is still remaining.
  • the nozzle should be slowly withdrawn, so as to prevent any air from getting in. Tap on the buttocks with hands or by his/ her heels.
  • Let the patient lie straight extending the whole body.
  • The oil should remain inside for intended period and comes out well mixed with
  • the feces Advised to take light food in the evening
  • PROCEDURE OF MATHRA VASTI:
  • This is done for pacifying the vitiated vata and for regularizing the bowel. The procedure is similar to that of anuvasana vasti In this, quantity of suitable oil is 50 to 75 ml. Matra vasti is done immediately after meal.
