Kashya Vasthi (Decocation Enema)

Indications:

The cleansing enema, those using less oil and more detoxifying herbs are indicated in- Diseases of vata due to obstruction in channels.Conditions of severe pain especially in the regions of abdomen,chest, pelvic region, head ache In disease of Vata origin (neurological) like Hemiplegia, Facial paralysis. In arthritic conditions like sandi gata vata, rakta vatha,Ama vata. Gulma, anaha,suddhatisara, jirna jwara etc. Impurities of semen and menstrual flow.Spleen disorders. Obstruction to flatus,urine and faces. Multiple Sclerosis


 


Treatment Procedure:

  • Kashaya vasti is to be done about mid morning around 10 am. The patient is advised to take the therapy in empty stomach. Abhyangam with suitable oil and mild sudation is done on the waist region. The patient is then made to 
  • lie comfortably on left lateral position with his left leg extended or stretched out and right leg folded in front and the left hand kept beneath the head. Lubricate the anus of the patient and also the nozzle of the vasti yantra Be careful enough to place a cotton wick before filling so that the fluid does not drain away. 
  • After pacing a while and pacifying the patient remove the plug from the nozzle hole, closing it with a finger let out any trapped air, insert the nozzle into the rectum slowly and straightly in the direction of the vertebral column. 
  • Let the fluid enter in without interruption by pressing the enema bag with uniform pressure or by holding the enema can at particular height which is suitable. Mean while ask the patient to relax completely and breathe through open mouth. 
  • Once the contents of the vasti have entered into the large intestine, and some fluid is still left in the bag the nozzle should be slowly withdrawn, so as to prevent any air from getting in. 
  • The patient is made t lie on his back and is asked at anticipate for the urge of defecation and is allowed to pass the stools. The fluid should come out within 48 mins of administration of the vasti. 
  • If the fluid does not come out within the time, all emergency measures must be taken. Another purgative enema with hot property should be administered or a rectal suppository should be made use of.
